Carriageway is the contiguous area of roadway along a road segment.

  • A carriageway is comprised of one or more traffic lanes [i.e. the usable width and could include shoulders and lay-bys.
  • Carriageways are separated by physical traffic separators.
  • When looking at a cross-section of the road reservation, the roadway consists of all of the carriageways.
