Current consensus

Time segment corresponds to a time period when some specific conditions are met.

Explanation

Time segments are collected and-or generated during data reduction. Depending on the kind of conditions which define them, their typical duration, and the researcher’s own vocabulary, they are identified as trips (a vehicle is started, driven for a period of time by a driver, then stopped), events (typically a short period of time with very particular characteristics), situations or chunks (division of the complete dataset into segments of comparable size according to a combination of situational variables, characterized with PI).
