Explanation

The traversal of an entire travel pathway by a vehicle from the point of origin to a destination.

  • This definition is adapted from SAE J3016 (2021)9.
  • Performance of the dynamic driving task during a given trip may be accomplished in whole or in part by a driver, driving automation system, or both
  • Trip in this sense is not to be confused with (change in) Trips measured across a population in relation to travel patterns as part of the evaluation stage (personal mobility imapct assessment).
